The primary responsibility of government is to protect its citizens. If we aren’t doing that, then we aren’t doing our job. Public safety is vital to establish a thriving economic sector, and I will support any legislation that is tough on crime.
Small businesses are the backbone of our state’s economy, which suffered a great deal under 2 years of draconian lockdowns. We need to support small businesses in whatever way we can, and I will push to eliminate any unnecessary regulations and barriers that would hamper entrepreneurship.
In addition to the numerous streets and roadways in need of repair, I also have big picture aspirations for our city. One such project I will be especially focused on is modernizing the infrastructure of our airport. This will likely entail collaborating with select members of Congress to secure AIP grants and other federal funding packages for expansion of the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport. This expansion project will include a US Customs facility to clear international flights, and a new concourse for those flights to transit in and out of (in other words, we will finally become a REAL international airport). The successful undertaking of this endeavor will increase passenger volume, boost operational revenue, open up lucrative travel markets (Louisville-Cancun, Louisville-Toronto, etc.), attract businesses to the city, and bring Louisville the notoriety that it deserves from a business and travel perspective. I will also inquire about the likelihood of expediting the renovations currently underway at the airport so that we can get started ASAP. This is a no-brainer; it’s long overdue, and it’s going to work wonders for Kentucky’s GDP.
I am strongly in favor of term limits for both federal and state lawmakers (and we should probably lump Metro Council in there as well). Having the same powers in charge for too long is generally problematic, as they have a tendency to get drunk on power and forget who it is they’re supposed to represent. I will sign the Term Limits Convention Pledge, created by USTL (US Term Limits, https://www.termlimits.com/). It is imperative that we do whatever we can to hold the federal bureaucracy in check.
As a graduate student at UofL, education is something I value. I believe that it is vital to a functioning society, and there is a lot to unpack in the case of Kentucky. I would start with school security. We need to have resource officers present in every school, every day, at all times. We also need to have a security team that is well-equipped to respond to incidents of danger, and I am not opposed to having metal detectors either because you never know what someone is going to bring into a school nowadays. I love magnet career academies. I would like to see more of them throughout the city and state. Believe it or not, college is not for everyone, and we need to facilitate a path to success for students that elect not to take the route of higher education. With this I propose more partnerships with local businesses and trade schools, and having such partnerships will pave the way for many of these students to find their calling straight out of high school. I support school choice as well. One’s zip code should never determine the quality of their education. Lastly, the curriculum in schools should be strictly academic and not ideologically motivated; and I will fight to ensure this is the case.
